Its been a busy couple days.

In between chasing kids, coaching baton.  And so on I made my first easter dress.

I bought myself a sewing machine when Kaylin was teensy.  And I just hated it.  It was exasperating, and eventually I gave my machine to my younger sister.  I've sewn by hand ever since then when I need anything done.

Recently my mom challenged me to try again, and at the time I rather rolled my eyes at her.  But then started thinking about why I'd quit.  I know how to sew I just hadn't really enjoyed fighting the machine.

But I fight the computer when it breaks down, all the time, and that doesn't irritate me.  And when I crochet I have no problem pulling out huge rows...shoot I pulled ALL of my sisters rug out and redid it when it was basically finished.

So I thought hmm maybe I'll try again.

I asked my mom if my sister was using my machine, and she said she hadn't touched it in several years.  I asked if I could have it back, and she said sure.

So I made several quick bags (just to get myself more used to sewing again)  And then I bought a pajama pants pattern, and a pattern for easter dresses.  I knew the pj's would be a quick easy challenge, one to remind me how to read/use a pattern, and very straight forward.  It was--I completed them in an hour.

So then I bit the bullet and broke out the easter dress.  It was scarey.

I have *never* Never sewn anything this complicated.  Lots of pieces (for me)  and two different materials.  And I did it.  In less then two days.

Its soooooo pretty!  And tomorrow I'll make Rainee's.  Different colors same pattern.  Zeria doesn't want a dress...so I'm not sure what I'll do for her.

Anyhow here's KK in her dress.  its meant to be a sundress, and will not normally have a shirt under it.  I have some very cute decorative buttons to put on it, but other then that its all done.

  • You done good.  Next you'll be doing quilts.  Giggles at her.  *g*

  • That dress is cute! It's awesome that you made it.

  • Im so jealous you can sew,id love to be able to. I did a class and made a skirt which turned out nice, but I wouldnt be able to do it without the teachers help.

  • the dress looks great! good for you to tackle sewing again, as if you needed something else to do!

  • awesome job!!  sewing dresses and clothes freaks me out.. I have not
attempted it yet.. no clue why I even have a sewing machine.. ugh.

  • see you can do it!  Have you a button button sewing button on your machine?  It makes for a very sturdy button that won't come off.  The other thing is some patterns (kinds) are easier then others.  look throught the patterns before you buy it just in case.  I have thrown away several and made something else out of the material.  Simplicity is always good.  Ask some of your other sewing friends what ones they trust as well.  NICE JOB!!

  • Good for you!!!  You go, Girl!
