Rainee rescue
Rainee has been a full time gig today.
We had bannana muffins for breakfast--made from scratch by daddy with real butter on top.
She was rescued at 8;30 , and at 11.
At noon we had "super nachoes" with cheddar cheeze, hamburger, refried beans, and sour cream--no salsa we were out. She had one oatmeal granola bar.
The afternoon was a continuation of frustration. At 2ish she came and cuddled with me--a sign that she's not doing well. "Rainee do you have asthma?" No, I'm fine.
"Does something hurt?" No I'm just tired. (Said in whispy voice)
I sit up and wrap her in my arms--my way of discretely testing her lungs. She's breathing hard and fast. I get the albuterol and rescue her. As soon as it its in her system she's done snuggling and ready to play. "Do you feel tired now?" No.
"That's cause you had asthma." OOOOh. She says and moves on. Asthma is such a part of her life it just doesn't phase her LOL
For dinner we had burritoes (not homemade) What can I say we were in a Mexican mood today.
She asked about 5:30 if she could have bologna. (We eat early) I said yes...she ate the whole frickin' package over the next couple hours. I did NOT say yes to that LOL.
From then until 7:45 she did quite well. Bed time was at 7. At 7:45 she came out with asthma. I rescued her and gave her maintenance puffer--cause I'd forgotten it.
At 8:30 she came out with asthma again. I rescued her again with albuterol. (This with in the amount the doctor told us she could have--but she's allowed no more abuterol until 12:30 at night.) At 9:20 she came out again with asthma. I gave her the atrovent--she's now used up all rescue meds until 12:30. Her saturation rates were good most of the night. With the exception of her last visit out which was still tolerable at 94.
She's not asleep yet, so the game may still be on. Is it any wonder I'm exhausted?

I appreciate observations about what you think might work, but I also want you to know there's a lot of extenuating circumstances for reasons some suggestions may not work. All suggestions and prayers are appreciated.

Praying for you and for Rainee...

Definately praying more regularly for Rainee and you all.
Am I right remembering that there are foods that she can't eat? Or foods that you avoid because the other kids or you can't eat them?
Prayers always!
My asthma is very much related to foods. I really think a research into that might be helpful? I eat cheap ice cream, ashtma, cheese, asthma, OJ asthma, juice of any kind asthma, Now I don't know if I'm actually satting though. I just get wheezy. I did some research on the GERD that I have and there is lots of relations to GERD and ashtma. If your refulux is up then your O2 sats are down. You said she had some problems with her stomach and ulcer and she has always had reflux. Maybe research really carefully foods that cause more reflux and see if it makes a difference? And if there is a relation there are meds that can be taken before she eats to help her tummy and any asthma caused by the tummy as opposed to the lungs. Its really fascintating to me because I have always known my food and asthma were related but I didn't realize It can actually drop the sats before I researched it. I would just say "oh that ice cream made me wheezy but maybe if I drink some water it will clear it up" I know she also has the obvious 'true' asthma as well so I'm not saying this is the fix all, just might help lessen attacks.
We don't do any drinking dairy. I purchase a non-laxtose milk product online. Because milk has been a issue for her. Red dye is a issue for her, and we avoid that. I don't believe that any food, or lifestyle change is going to completely fix Rainee, due to all of her underlying issues...which is why I admit to getting frustrated when its suggested we ditch ALL processed food, something that gets very very expensive, and is just absolutely not in my budget. Nevermind in my ability to provide due to the work involved. We *do* make all our own bread, and all of our own breakfast's. In regards to reflux, she's on the heaviest adult dose of Prevacid, but since October we have come to realize that when she says her stomache is hurting its NOT its asthma, so at some point we will probably adjust the dose of Prevacid, but nobody wants to mess with it at this point, as we don't want to add complications to the situation.
You said you wanted suggestions
be careful what you wish for! I know there are foods that cause GERD that cause the O2 to drop though, something i didn't know before. So of course if your at your highest level of meds, changing food is the next logical step. Supposably buying bulk online is the cheapest way to eat and you already order the fancy non milk online so its not an unfamilair thing. I think a little research on foods that can make her O2 sat would be helpful for you, and yes she is never going to be better unless GOD heals her! Something we will continue to pray for daily!. (also something mom keeps reminding me about my health) Did they say they were keeping an eye on her ulcer or did they assume it got better? Just curious because my tummy still hurts a LOT and they gave me something to help with the pain and said it should be better in two weeks with the Priolsec. i tried to tell them that stomach issues were a family thing, my uncles, grandpa etc... but no one listened. My doc assumed it was the Ibuprophen and that a high dose treatment of prilosec and I'll be all better.
I keep trying to tell you she doesn't HAVE an ulcer, that was a theory that we worked on for two years, but instead came to the conclusion that the pain was asthma related. Every time she gets the what we used to call ulcer symptoms if we give her albuterol it goes away. Thus two years of making her be miserable for nothing.
Make up a detail list of the ingrediants to things you KNOW she is allergic too (like the salsa) and see if you can find a common ingrediant or 2? It might not be the processed foods in general, but something particular in some of them. Have you tried home made salsa also to see if she still reacts? (Just curious on that one)
I can't think of anything else, but I'm not much help because I'm like her...I don't even realize what it is until I'm either too far gone I HAVE to do something or I take my 2nd inhaler as a precaution and suddenly feel better. lol I haven't gotten an oximeter yet to test and see how much I'm off though...I might do that in the near future. But I have found other things not food related that get to me...Stress, it gets worse the week before I start (obviously doesn't apply to her yet lol) and I think the space heaters we were using were aggravating me as well--I'm MUCH better since we haven't had to use those! Oh, and I did change all my cleaning products except laundry and I have to keep up with the catbox. That only bothers me if I don't keep it clean enough.
Oh, I did forgert one thing... Sometimes since later in the day after being active, etc. and if I eat too much (like going out to dinner and making a pig of myself) I can get worse. It's not a digestive thing so much as lack of space and working harder to digest and breathe at the same time. LOL
I made fantastic homemade salsa about a year ago--and she would NOT eat it. LOL The tomatoes were too fresh. If I were to try it again I would cook it, which probably she would like much better.
