  • The baton competition went well.  Each of the kids with the exception of Samuel came home with a second place in one of there two solo events.  No firsts this time, but lots of other ribbons.

They didn't do so hot  in marching, but since we all hate the marching, that wasn't suprising.

They each had the opportunity to perform their big solo at two different age levels/degrees of difficulty.   This gives them a chance to redeem themselves if they blow it.

This meant that Kaylin's first time doing her solo she actually competed against Zeria and Samuel.   And she BEAT both of them walking away with second.  We're still chuckling about that.  Samuel performed head down the whole performance, so he got last place.  Zeria dropped her baton a lot, so she got third.  And KK did a spot on performance even though its not very showy, and as a result beat her sister.  And had the grace not to rub it in.

Rob ended up being the announcer for the full four hour competition, which meant I had to direct all five kids by myself, but that actually wasn't too bad...if not a bit insane.  The competitions move very very fast.  Most of the time there are four lanes of competition going at once, and since I have five kids quite often I have at least two kiddos competition at the same time in different events.  Definitely crazy.  I think I miss more then I see.  But fun nonetheless.

I didn't take a single picture I was too busy watching.  Sides their costumes are the same as last time.  So just imagine the pictures you saw in December.  *snicker*

We raced home from the competition to take Zeria to a birthday party she was invited to.  It was her first invite to anybody's house in over a year.  (One of the major reasons we've contemplated a move.)  She was ECSTATIC to be invited, and DEVASTATED when she found out it was the same weekend as her competition.  But since it was a sleepover we made arrangements for her to arrive a bit late.  I really hope it went well.  I hate the Junior High Angst.

We will pick her up just before church.  I expect she's going to sleep all afternoon.  LOL  I also hope that she wasn't exposed to too much nonsense as it was not at a Christian house.

Its at a single dad's house whose doing a spectacular job of raising his two children.  He's at every event, has his kids clean, dressed, and (mostly) respectful.  McKenzie likes to talk and talk, and talk.  She has a hard time stopping to listen to directions--yes I coach her.  But hey that's kid.  So we'll say mostly respectful.  *snicker*  I figure as a girl raised by her dad with her brother she probably gets desperate to talk in her own female language so to speak.  *snicker*

    Anyhow that's our weekend.
