  • Orange slice cookie recipe with butter, vanilla, oats, and coconut are filled with chopped orange sliced candies.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 cups quick cooking oats
    • 2 cups orange slice candies, finely snipped
    • 1 cup flaked coconut

    Preparation:

In a large mixing bowl, cream sugars with shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla extract; beat well. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir to blend. Stir dry mixture into the creamed mixture. Stir in oats, orange slice candy, and coconut. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove to wire rack to cool.
Makes about 72 orange slice cookies.

Zeria just finished making those for us.  We've not had them before, but I think they'll be quite nummy.  Snipping the orange slices was a royal pain in the butt!  But other then that it was a easy recipe.

Tonight Rob has to go back to work.  He meant to take it off...but when you take evening shifts off your supposed to actually take the next day off, and he messed up.

So the kids and I will celebrate on our own.  Its okay...we did that last year and quite a nice time.

We have three DVD's to watch.  One we've all seen, the other two not.  We have pizza dough rising, and everybody gets to doctor there own pizza.  And then we'll bring in the New Year by watching tv.

Oh and I'll shoot my 22 off at midnight.  *snicker*  Must have booms.  I would shoot the 12 gauge off, but I don't like the kick it has.  So it will be little pop-pops at midnight.

And tomorrow provided the roads are good we will go over to my moms for a wee bit.

  • rain

We still have about 2.5 feet of snow, and its raining HARD.  With a rain warning for today and tomorrow.  Rob and I are still watching the river very very closely.

We still have NO water, but are headed out the door to get parts for that right now.

We are also picking up more food for the ponys as they are eating at an alarming rate thanks to the relentless snow.

It is soooooooo good to be home.    It is with great reluctance we leave today, we are just enjoying vedging.

The kids have built HUGE igloo like things with the snow chunks the neighbor made with his cat.  They are kind of sad about the rain.  And are out playing in it as we speak.

I know I haven't shared a ton of vacation pictures yet.  So I think over the next couple weeks I'll just do it slowly.  So today is this amazing building.

Isn't that just cool looking?  Its a dinner theater building in Pokey.  It looked like a  a old fashion manor house.

  • deep breathe

The rain stopped at midnight.  And we now have clear skies.

We still have over two feet of snow on our property...and no river near our house.

    *cheers*

We have taken several deep breathes and will continue to pray for a slow melt-off.

On fun news.  Rob and I went outside and taught the kids how to "really" build a snow man.  It took five of us to get the middle up onto the bottom.

  • flood

There is a very very good possibility we will be evacuating in the next 12-18 hours.

It is raining hard.  And we have three feet of snow on the ground.

Last year when we had 18 inches of snow on the ground and it started raining the river was at the doorstep...literally.

It doesn't take a math genius to see the potential for problems.  Rob made me point out the three totes I want saved.   (My scrapbooks).

    Prayers are always appreciated.

  • Bon Voyage

Our excursion is nicely packed.  The food we've been baking/cooking for the last two days (to keep us fed on the trip) is all cooked and packed.  The kids are tucked in bed, and we will be leaving at 5 am.

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeee

The snow is supposed to stop have stopped.  But we shall see.  So far the roads are icy, slippery, and well ya know winter roads.  We'll drive slow, and stay alert.

Of course this being said the plan is to drive through the night.  So all prayers are appreciated.

I will not have computer access in Idaho, so

    Merry Christmas!

Yes that's last years picture.  We'll take this years on Sunday, so I guess you'll get to see it when we get back.

    Yup more snow.

Yup we drove in it again.

Yup it was white out conditions again.

I didn't take the picture--but it is only a mile from here.  I got it from here.  The local fishing resort.

In one of those ironic moments of internet wonder.  Every morning Rob gets up and checks the web cam of his home town, my sister in Omak's home town and my brother in Yakima's webcam.

And his dad checks the webcam in Sekiu to see what we're dealing with.

    The joys of the internet.

Anyhow we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground and are apparently supposed to get more.

The kids are currently breaking icicles off of our lexan sunroom roof.  And having a contest as to whose is bigger.

We ended up not doing Awana last night to avoid getting stuck on 112.  It was a wise choice since the drive home was hairy as it was.  I played Santa and delivered pressys to my mom, my dad, and via my mom to my sisters.  Karla;  its on the way.

Now to see how bad the weather gets and when we leave to Idaho.  According to the forecast its supposed to be sunny.  We shall see.

  • Christmas Miracle

Oh my word I just feel like bawling from relief.

God just gave us a HUGE breathing room.  HUGE!!!

We sold the red van today for $1,000.  That is our gas money to Idaho and back and then some!!!

We could even eat out or *gasp* breathe.

    God just thanks God.

We put it up for sale in our driveway yesterday.

    Thats it no, advertising.

Just yeah God gave us Christmas...again.

  • ice storm

Our snow "looked" like it had melted.  And it looked like we were back to rain.

Until you step outside...and everything is sheer ice.  All of the standing water is not water but ice.  Its evil.

Although I admit to amusement when our extremely clutzy great dane puppy came running around the corner to say high.  She took a sharp corner.  Her front legs with left.  Her back legs went wooooooooooooosh and down she went.

She didn't even have the grace to look sheepish.  But Zeria and I were laughing our heads off....carefully as we knew we could be next.

  • beautiful...the song and the video

  • Our nasty weather...

Yup that would be snow, and a rather rough bay crashing on the breakwater if you can see through the snow that is.
