  • why I vote

Its the time of the year where I duck my head and skim a lot of blogs.

Blogs of people I like and respect the rest of the time, and suddenly they turn into these politcal ranting crazies.  Its not my thing, and typically I just duck my head and move on.

Today a lady whom I like and have met in real-life and also happens to be on the opposite end of the political spectrum as me did another politcally motivated blog.  She wanted to know what kind of woman voted for Republicans.

    That would be me.

I'm not going to go all political on you.  But I will say that I'm voting for McCain and Palin.  I'm not quite as excited about Palin as others, but she's better then a lot of other options.

Why do I vote this way?

    MORALITY.

Pro Life.  I feel very very strongly about the abortion issue.  And its what makes me place my vote.

Bush for everything he did fought very very hard to make abortion extremely difficult to get.  He deserve big kudos for this.

Its my biggest reason for voting these days.  The taxing and how you spend your money that just starts me laughing.  Because both sides make these lovely financial promises and neither side ever actually comes even remotely close to keeping them.

The Seattle PI shows both McCain, Bush, and Obama promising to "fix" the economy.  Hey look something both sides agree on.

Scuse me while I sit over hear laughing.

Oh wait I went on a total rabbit trail.  I don't have faith in either side fixing it.

I do believe however God sets up rulers, and brings them down.  And thus I give my vote and trust God to do the rest.  Cause that's the kind of woman I am.

  • I know - I have yet to post political on my blog...and I refuse to get on my message boards and discuss...one of my message boards is on page 8 of a discussion on Palin.  I'm having to sit on my hands to NOT say anything.

I'll be voting for McCain/Palin also, as will DH, DS (his first time voting - when he saw her shoot the machine gun he was hooked), in-laws, and my Dad.

I look at it this way, the Dems have had control the past 2 years, and since then, everything has gone downhill.

  • i don't do the political thing either- but like you i tend to vote based on morality, and the prolife side gets my vote.

  • You're a smart cookie!  I have posted some things but mostly protected and since I have reg. Xanga only 10 are on there.  I guess I should stop worrying about offending anyone and just post what I want on my blog.  I am 64 yrs. old today and this is the scariest election/government I have ever seen.  I too am trying so hard to let go and let God rule and I know that He is in control.  I just hope my little faith hangs in there and keeps me out of depression.  I do take something when my mind starts spinning and I know I'm going down.  I want to be strong but everything seems to be hitting at once with the fuel and what the congress voted not to do about that today, the election and the banking industry.  We are getting hit from all sides and I wonder if God isn't telling us we can't continue to do and live as we have been or He will treat us as He has other nations that left Him out.

  • I totally agree with you.  People seem stunned that I would isolate the pro-life plank as my sole reason for sticking with the Republicans, but hey, if ya don't have life, there's just not much else to consider!  At that point, I always paraphrase the quote by Mother Teresa who said something like, "You can tell the integrity of a society by how it treats its weakest members."  People?  We'll in a nutshell, we are all just a bunch of blundering goobers and that seems to be accentuated when peeps move to Washington DC!  I am thankful that God establishes all authority ~ I can rest in that.  And once more this year, I will step in the voting box and pray, "Dear Lord, please mark my ballot again!"

  • @TheSunnyC - Hi Sunny!  I refer to Proverbs 24:12 on these matters. It says: "If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?  I am a former crisis pregnancy center counselor and I always tell the truth in love (that's key!) about abortion because 1-it may save a child's life 2-and it may save a woman's life (many women feel like they have committed an unforgiveable sin, but God's grace is big enough to cover abortion too and they need emotional and spiritual healing!)  Check my blog, as I have recently posted a prolife blog... I think it's still on the front page.  (Sorry to comandere your space, T!  I give it back now! )

  • This woman votes Republican too.

Why?  Because I have beliefs and opinions that are not formed by listening to what celebrities have to say.  My beliefs and opinions come from living a real life, making a real living and paying for real life bills.  My opinions and beliefs are based on living a moral life and refusing to let others take care of me.  I don't believe in socialism, I don't believe in big taxes on anyone and I surely don't believe that Obama isnt Muslim.

Funny, I was listening to an interview on the local radio station with some girls from PETA.  How they wanted everyone to become vegan because the animals were slaughtered in a cruel way.  They were were still conscious when their throats were slit.  That they shouldn't die so we could eat. And that they have feelings like humans.  And the radio host asked them one question....what were their views on abortion.  And they refused to answer it.

So I vote Republican because I like to eat meat (medium please).  I like my criminals in jail.  I like my babies alive.  I like my paycheck to be big and I like my taxes to be small.  Oh, and I like domestic oil and as an Environmental Science degree holder, I know that weather and climate is cyclical and changes and no man is big enough to permanently alter this enormous globe we call earth.

  • And I need to add....

I like my terrorists dead or across the pond and I like my gun at my side.

  • the pro-life issue is a BIG part of why we too vote republican!

totally off topic here....i LOVE your header! it is neat! i love how it blinks through to the little ones! very creative!

  • I never talk politics.. because no one understands my views.  My friend doesn't understand why I vote on morality.. so we don't discuss it.. So glad to hear there are others who think as I do!  Great Post!

  • hi.  i'm sorry, i dont know you or anything, but i like reading your blog from time to time.  i'm fresh out of college, and i think i started reading your blog when i first started college.  i dont read it regularly, just once in a while.  i like hearing about someone who has a life full of raising kids and doing mom-type stuff, and all that.

all that to say, i dont want to sound like a complete stranger, though i may be to you.  and especially because i feel like, i vote on morality too.  but not on the same type of morality, i think.  i mean, i care deeply about children and babies and all that, and wouldnt ever have an abortion no matter what situation i was in, but i dont feel comfortable telling other women to not have abortions either.  i feel like that is an individual decision, not something we can all weigh in on.what i do vote about is the future, the big picture.  When I hear what Palin has to say about drilling in the arctic, where all the beautiful nature is, where God's creation is, I dont like it.  And in the past, as far as your reference to the economy goes, under democrats the economy always does better than it does under republicans. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/31/business/31view.html?scp=26&sq=us%20economy&st=cse  this is  a really clear article from the new york times about how who is in office does affect the economy, and particularly common people like you and i.  I really believe that equality among people is more important than abortion- if we had more equality, perhaps women would not feel a need to have abortions.  they would feel better about the homes their children would come to.  I dont know what the reasoning behind women who have abortions is, really, but maybe that is part of it.i guess my hang up on mccain and palin is that they are republicans, and as such are more likely to cause greater schism between upper and lower classes.  This is sour to me.  In the same sense, I dont want any further wars with anyone (which you can see my latest post about that).  wars give me nightmares.at any rate, sorry if you didnt want to hear any of this.  but i feel so strongly that the economy is more of the government's business than a woman's private life.

  • I'm a bit more big picture--I don't expect any canidate to totally overturn Roe vs. Wade--that would be HARD.  But, restrictions, parental consent, etc. would be a good start and I think McCainPalin can do that IF they don't have the dem. congress.  Obama is just way, way too liberal/socialist for my tastes period.  On every issue.  Even McCain is a bit less than I like, but now Palin is just about as close to what I really agree with that I'll probably see in my lifetime.  She has a good record in AK and in some cases experience is way over-rated (Biden for example? lol)  I told Dh I'd never get elected, I'm too conservative.  But my gosh they came pretty darn close with her!
