  • I'm back from Seattle.

It was a long uneventful trip.

I took Rainee to the GI doctor.  He ran a bunch of tests, and will run a few more.

    We also took a x-ray.

So far he doesn't want another bronchostopy which makes me VERY happy.

I wasn't thrilled with the doctor.  I didn't feel like he listened to me very well.  He wants us to experiment with fructose intolerance which we are doing.  Its not going to be fun, as its in EVERYTHING.

Lunch and dinner I can do for Rainee, breakfast just sucks.  Rainee doesn't like eggs.  What else is there for breakfast that doesn't have fructose in it.  *growl*

She can have bread according to the doctor even if it has fructose in it.  But bread with no jam, or honey, or yeah you get the picture.

I'm also not convinced that its going to do any good.  I realize that it is a true problem.  But I don't feel like Rainee's symptoms match it.  But I'm prepared to be proven wrong.

I've done a low-carb diet off and on since I was 18, so I'm aware of what to watch for in regards to hidden sugars.  Its just keeping a six year old happy at breakfast thats got me stumpped.  Breakfast low-fructose is just BORING!

And yeah there's things like cottage-cheese pancakes etc.  But what do you put on top of them.  See the issue with getting a child to eat?  Rainee isn't actually that terribly picky, unlike her other two sisters.  But one can only eat eggs for breakfast in so many ways before one wants to throw the eggs at someone.  And Rainee's not a egg fan.

And Rainee LOVES fruit.  LOVES it.  And now she's not supposed to eat a single piece of it for two weeks.  It could be a long two weeks.

  • Blessings to be poured out for all of you for the next two weeks.  We had some of this experience with son with food.  He could have vanilla wafers for snack.  How about powdered peanut butter?  I didn't go look at the jar.  Oatmeal?  pure sorghum?  I haven't a clue as you can tell.

  • I found a honey that is made without sugar... weird, but true. The girls seem to like it fine. No fructose of course and it's made by HoneyTree. Maybe that could be tried if you can find it. I found ours at Fred Meyer.

  • And TheSunnyC's suggestion of oatmeal for breakfast is great! Old-fashioned plain rolled oats -- add the weird honey I just suggested, along with milk. It's worth a shot at least.

  • @Zvanoizu - honey is 40% fructose.  So its a no-go  Yeah it doesn't have cane sugar in it...its made from honey.  But it is a sugar form...just not cane.

  • molasses is made from sugar which is 50% fructose which is again out.

  • @Rainydame - No! This is not real honey! This is imitation honey so there's absolutely no fructose in it whatsoever. It does have malitol syrup so I wouldn't recommend tons of it. But there's no fructose in it. I double checked the ingredients before I recommend it. LOL

  • I'm not a big breakfast eater so I can empathize with Rainee.  Boy the information on the internet about fructose free diets is confusing.  Some say bread is ok while others say that bread isn't ok.  According to what I know about bread making you need some kind of sugar to make the yeast rise.   A site that I found that at least had some suggestions on what you CAN eat is  http://www.bu.edu/aldolase/HFI/treatment/.  I'll be praying for wisdom and creativity for you in the next two weeks!  Oh and I'm glad that your home from your trip safe and sound.

  • I'm confused as to how fruit can be bad for a person but whatever...  I know Kelly always is saying that fruit is bad for you to because of the sugar but it seems kind of weird.  I guess you keep searching the internet for its endless diet suggestions.  IF I think of anything... I'll make sure and send it your way although I have no doubt you will  be getting lots of 'helpful' hints...

  • @KarlaandSuperMedic - the problem in my limited understanding is that its rather the fact that sugar has just plain been abused.  Its in absolutely everything these days rather then just "normal" foods.  Fructose is a "good" sugar as far as that goes...except everybody has started using it in everything too.  The theory behind fructose intolerance is that it gives your stomache un-ending gas constipation or diahrea, nausea, extreme pain and or hypoglycemia.  Its essentially an allergy for some people.  And is apparently growing more and more common.  It goes back to what mom tried to pound into us when we were little about natural foods, and we all know how nasty most of those taste...just think spinach macaroni.  And gag for awhile.

  • @Rainydame - But I likes spinach macaroni... ehehehehe. I'm demented though.

  • I hope you find the source... Praying for you while you investigate.
