  • Digi Nut

    fantasyland

This is one of my digi nuts for this week.  The bright color swirly thing was the picture we were to play with.  I rather liked the outcome.  It looks like Fantasia to me.  And is not my normal thing, but somehow I fell in love with it.  Okay I guess I'm just in love with a good reason to "play" with digi pictures.  LOL

Yesterday was uneventful.  And driving my new vehicle a DREAM.  So nice not to be worrying about breaking down etc.  Of course said vehicle is already starting to look a bit lived in...*snicker*

This weekend will be brought to us by Awana Games.  We are travelling to Silverdale for three of the kids to compete.  The Sparks are not entering a team this year, but the TNT boys team was shy a boy so they invited Jamari to join them.  Kaylin has chickened out playing the last two years anyhow, so this doesn't hurt her feelings much.   So now I'm trying to come up with something fun to pack for a lunch.  We really can't afford to eat out...and packed lunches are BORING.

Give me some new ideas PLEASE.   And not boring sandwiches.  BORING sandwiches.  Some kind of stuffed rolls, or finger food, or a nice salad, something that doesn't require too much silverware, and no reheating.

    PLEASE?  Inspire me!

  • ooooooo!!!!!   COOL background!!!!!!!!  :)    I LOVE it!  Too bad we don't live close so you could show me HOW to do this neat stuff!!  I'm sure our kids would have a blast playing!  HA!!  Mine came in terrible muddy this afternoon, but hey, they had FUN!!!!!  :)

Lunch ideas....do your kids like cheddar cheese chunks, pepperoni, and crackers, string cheese, apples, rolled up meat ( maybe with cheese in the middle), just some ideas???  We sometimes take stuff like that, but we haven't for a long time and now our kids are big, so it might NOT satisfy???Have fun!!!!!!

  • Along the same line as what Kabell said, if you take big skewers ( like kabob skewers) and layer fruits on it, that's always good. We do that with a small container of yogurt to dip in. Also, we do chunks of ham, pepperoni, cheese and mini pitas layers on a skewer, sometimes dipped in hummus or pizza sauce.
As far as wraps go, we make a wrap with whatever leftover meat we have from the night before (usually chicken) and dice it up with tomatoes, cheese (I've used shredded too), some bacon (if it's on hand) and then any other veggies we might happen to have (cooked carrots, peas, lima beans, whatever!) mixed up with mayo or pesto or any kind of sandwich flavoring. It's tasty, an easy way to get some veggies in, and just plain easy.
Also, we do pasta salads with the same kind of concept - throw a bunch of cooked pasta (any kind) in with some cheese, diced up meat, leftover veggies and stir it all together. No mayo or anything, then you don't worry about it going bad so much.
Of course, I'm cooking for just two of us, sometimes three, so I can afford to be a little more lax with my cooking style. I hope I've inspired you at least a little!

  • How about stuffing pitta bread so that they get 'pockets' instead of sandwiches? Or pasta salads - a basic tomato sauce works hot or cold. Kiwi fruit can be eaten with a spoon a bit like a boiled egg.

  • We hate sandwiches too, so we pack real fresh buns from safeway  (or if your inspired homemade buns) and lunch meats with cheese's.  If we feel like going whole hog we have several different kinds of buns, meat and cheese.  Its something they did in Europe.  We may pack mayo with it (which I know Rob doesn't do) but usually we don't.  Its easy and everyone 'makes' their own the way they want it.  Its also easy to pack in an ice chest.  We usually throw in Juice packs (its the only time we buy them) so its moderately healthy.  That bbq pork you sometimes bring would taste good with buns!
