  • sick

Its been a strange 18 hours.

Zeria has been sick with a cold/asthma.  She did a high fever Thursday and now just has this nasty asthma cough.  I woke up yesterday not feeling great, and decided to stay home.  I made Zeria stay home because of her cough.

In the afternoon it was sunny, so Sam had a friend over.  Zeria was feeling good, so she went outside.  They were taking turns riding the quad.  Zeria and Kaylin at some point were riding the quad, and Sam and his friend decided to chase them.  This was all going "ok" until they added big sticks to the mix.   Kaylin tapped Zeria on the shoulder to show her that Sam had sticks.   Zeria looked backwards while still driving the quad.  The quad has a governor that doesn't allow it to go faster then 10 mph.  I'm very greatful for this.  Anyhow while she was looking backwards Sam threw the stick, and it got stuck in the wheels.  And somehow they managed to run-over,  hit Jeremiah who was on his bike.

Nobody actually saw the impact.  Rob saw it about 2 seconds too late.  And the girls were looking backwards.  It needless to say scared the crap out of us.  We checked him over, but good.  No blood, no obvious bruises or swelling, lots of mud.  We put him in the tub with Jamari.   Jamari wore shorts so mommy could help clean up Jeremiah.    They played.  Jeremiah wasn't crying, or whimpering.  He was quite happy and goofy.  Shortly after it was dinner time.   Jeremiah "seemed" to be okay.  He would bear weight on both legs, but after about 8 steps would start whimpering, and not want to walk further.

Rob and I's eyebrows were raised, and we were quite frankly absolutely freaked out.  My husband is a NURSE.   So we aren't totally stupid.  There were no signs of swelling and he could bare weight.  So we decided to watch it.  About 5 pm Jeremiah fell asleep nursing.  Since we'd given him tylenol we weren't shocked, and he's developed a BAD habit of going to sleep then anyhow.

He woke up at 7 pm kinda cranky, but that too is VERY normal.  I reached for him to comfort him and he was burning up.  I tried to find the thermometer, but I put it in a "safe" place after using it on Zeria earlier in the week.     It was too soon to give him more tylenol, and we just assumed he was coming down with Zeria's cold.

We tried moving him to his bed once about 8:30, but it didn't go over well, so finally we moved his toddler mattress into our room.  At 9:30 he woke up screaming.  He said his head hurt.  I grabbed a chewable tylenol to give to him.  He wouldn't take it.  I tried to insist.  And he threw up.

And then the fun began.  He threw up about once every hour all night long.  He's not dehydrated as he's been insisting on water before and after each puke.  So its just normal flu crap. I mighta been concerned that it was a concussion or something--except there are NO bumps on his head.  But there's another except.

At one pm there was a knock on our door.  At this point Rob and I were the walking dead.  Something about cleaning up and comforting puking child for the past 5 hours ya know.    It was Zeria.  "Rainee's screaming, and says she's gonna throw up."  Rob went and got her.

She did.  About five minutes after Jeremiah did again.   It went that way the rest of the night.  Its been so much fun.

It was a full time gig for both Rob and I.  Jeremiah is not a good sick.

Rainee has maybe thrown up one other time in her life, so it absolutely terrified her each time she did.  Rainee does asthma not tummy bugs.  LOL  Also with Rainee's airway defects I'm sure its much scarier to get the stuff out of her airway, and junk.   Remember she has a trachea that has 80% cartiledge and 20% soft tissue.  So she doesn't have the body parts to clean stuff out well.

All in all it was a fun night.  Rainee has eaten a smidge of toast this morning.

Jeremiah nursed about 7:30 pm and has slept for the last 2 and a half hours which means he also has moilky in his system.  So things are looking a tich better except for the whole exhausted beyond belief.

Pets my Diet Dew.   Do they have it in IV form?

  • *hugs*  Doesn't sound like fun at all.

  • oh man.  We have had similar accidents.  Like playing super hero pillow fight and the little one slamming head first into the corner of the dresser (five stitches.)  Or  jumping off the parked car, swinging from a rope tied to the balcony, falling (cast required for that one.)  And we have had everybody sick and throwing up and burning up with fever and needing breathing treatments at the same time.  (((hugs)))....just sympathetic mommy (((hugs))))

I'll be praying that EVERYBODY is on the mend real soon.

  • Oh, the joys of parenthood.  Been there done that......lots of sympathy for you and Rob.  I'd still keep a close eye on Jeremiah.

  • Wow. You have all the fun, dontcha? I'll be praying for you all! Nothing is worse than a house full of sick kids.

  • I would still watch him for anything out of the ordinary.  But I sure don't envy you this sick...Yuck!
