Bubble Baths
Rob found this; this morning.
We are highly amused because we believe someone’s been sitting in our master bathroom observing.
Is that TMI? It WAS in a comic.
Anyhow it made us giggle.
We are surviving. I had to run something into town this morning due to a lack of communication on my dad’s part. It was definitely above and beyond in my opinion, but he REALLY needed it, so I did. And left the kids and my husband at home. And went shopping in Goodwill WITHOUT my family. Darn that hurt my feelings.
I puttered around and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I managed to score about 15 episodes of the original Star Trek in video form. I’m sure somebody upgraded to dvd’s. We happen to prefer video form as my kids don’t trash them nearly as easily. So tonight we’re introducing the kids to a legend, a mystery, a fantastic journey into the unexplained phenomena.
Okay I fully expect them to look at us with wide eyes and say something like “Why is this cool.”
Its okay we’re still going to watch it.
Actually so far each of the classics they’ve watched with me they’ve liked. But I chosen age appropriate as much as possible. We’ve done Roy Rogers, Shirley Temples, certain John Waynes; Hatari, McClintock, Circus World. The ones that were MY favorites as a kid.
We haven’t done a lot of Cary Grant cause I remember falling in love with him about 13. The humor would go over there heads, and ruin my entertainment all in one fell swoop.
So those are coming.
And we actually have a list of Classic’s that will be required for my kids school education. Yeah school.
Back to Bataan, Sergeant York, Never so Few, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Tuskegee Airman, Man of Honor and several others that aren’t coming to me at the moment. While they aren’t absolutely accurate historically they get you feeling what the situations and certain times in history were like. And for me they are what triggered my LOVE and FASCINATION with history. They stirred my mind and made me research the real story. But I think we’ll wait a bit for those too. Nothing wrong with them, just think my kids are still a wee young.

Being a Cary Grant fanatic… Topper! My girls are just seven and nine and totally loved the original Topper. They were giggling their butts off. Both Topper movies (the second is mostly sans Cary) are just a lot of fun. And Arsenic and Old Lace! The girls have loved that movie for ages now! We watch it and just but up. Another wonderful favorite the kids get? My Favorite Wife! Operation Petticoat, a later film, is fun, as is Father Goose.
Also… if you can ever catch The Invisible Boy, any classic Star Treks, The Incredible Voyage… the Sinbad movies… those are great fun too.
OH you know Bachelor and the Bobby Socker would be good to….must find that!
I love the comic strip! Oh so true : )
The “shopping” trip sounded like a lot of fun.
I’m sure that we watched all those movies that you mentioned while at college. Remember how Chris hated the “old movies”? I really have got to get Mr. Holland’s Opus and watch it with my kids. I liked that one a lot. The kids watched “Cutting Edge” recently and loved it.
I love the old My Fair Lady just for the music and story. Not any good movies that we can go see anymore. Wil nor I do foul language very well and we sure don’t want to sit and watch sex scenes….notice I didn’t say love scenes.
I have a son, older one, that just loves the old musical productions. When i can find them, I get them and then dole them out for his birthdays, etc. His kids watch them too. I like to share Anne Franke movies and similar ones too. I believe the general idea that, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” So far I stick by that idea. You got some time off from the whole crowd? Wowsers! Hope you enjoyed it.
