  • Hospital weekend.

Well there went that weekend.  I just spent it at the hospital with Samuel.

    He was very healthy Thursday.

I staggered out of my bedroom Friday morning to go sit at the computer barely aware of my world yet.  Rob had been awake for an hour.  "I don't think Samuel's feeling good, he's just laying on the recliner he says to me."  I got up to get something and looked over at him.  "Samuel look at me."

I looked a bit closer.  His jaw and neck on the right side were EXTREMELY swollen.   I felt his forehead and he had a fever.  Rob checked it out and asked me to call the doctor.  An hour and a bit later we were there.  And 45 minutes after that we had a all expense paid stay at the hospital.  Ugly blue and hard recliner chairs to sleep in are always what I wish to sleep in.

A cat scan, blood work, and a iv, and two days of extremely strong iv antibiotics and we got the fever to break.  We got to come home this morning, the swelling is still there, but has gone down a bit.  They are hoping the next 8 days of antibiotics will kill the rest of it.  We're to watch his temperature, and the swelling and go from there.

They say its NOT mumps, although it looks a lot like it.  ITs just some kind of bizarre bacterial infection that attacked his perotic gland.  (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong.

Rob and the kids spent Friday night at mom and dads, but came home yesterday to get clean clothes and feed the animals.   I bought some clean clothes at Walmart.  A long with something to knit.

I then sat down to calculate how many days I've spent doing hospital duty since I got married.

I think we're now at 27.    But, this is the very first time it hasn't been for breathing related issues.

Which meant no visits with my favorite respitory therapist.  (that didn't hurt my feelings even if she is sweet.)

You can sort of see the swelling in this picture, but its not great.  Samuel was an extremely good patient.  He had access to a Nintendo game, and the tv.  What more could a tv addict want?

Mom, is exhausted, tired, and sore.

Nothing that a good nights sleep in her OWN bed with no alarms going off won't cure.

We came home to a baby cow.  She's soooooo cute.  I'll share pictures later.  When I've had ten hours of sleep in my own bed.

  • :( Bless his heart and yours too mama!!! Hospital stays are no fun for anyone. I hope he feels better soon and you can get back into life as you know it without having to sleep on big huge uncomfortable hard rubbery plastic chairs!!! (From a mama who knows those oh so well...)

  • hope the everyone is feeling better - it's good that you could get samuel to the hospital so quickly and get him on meds - but those chairs are pure toture to sleep in (from someone who has slept in their share of those chairs!)

  • I hope he's feeling a lot better! Not nice when kids aren't well!

  • WOW sounds like an eventful weekend! I am glad you caught it quick and will keep you all in my prayers. I hope he gets to feeling better soon.
