  • You know what?

I think all the mumbo jumbo about kids--even homeschool kids having all these "extra" curricular activies is a bunch of bunkem.

My kids are absolute little bears.

And its the direct result from not enough free time, and too much extra-curricular.  And our schedule is so mild to most.

I do not ever want to get sucked into the drive them everywhere every night of the week crap.  I don't like who they become.

  • I definitely have to agree with this.. children need free time.

  • That's why I'm picky and set limits.  Unfortunately I don't live in the boonies where they can just run, play, be kids and all either and they need energy outlets (to keep my nerves in tact. LOL)  So...that's why we do PE.  It's 2 hrs. a week and that's it.  No scheduled games to work around, they get to play a variety of sports, it's a good compromise for us.  Then they each have 1 other activity of interest.  Although if I had 6 kids, even that would be harder. LOL  I only have 2 old enough now.

  • Oh yeah, the big BALANCE word again.  It is different for every family and even within a family.

That is so cool about Rob and your dad working together.  Justin and his dad were working together this week fixing our water pump.  I love listening to them problem solve together- especially when the talk to and listen to each other.

  • I so agree! We let the girls do TeamKids at church and one extra activity outside of church, which is usually swimming. The rest of the time I believe they should play because play is just as imaginative and effective I believe. I direct a little of their playtime into fun home activities like crafts, drawing or board games, but really, a kid needs to be a kid and I too refuse to be the family chaffeur for activity after mind-numbing activity. In the summer I head them outside to their swingset and toys. I have a feeling that this coming summer we'll be heading to the school playground a little more so Emily can practice with her basketball -- she loves that thing.

  • We had this same thing......we were doing too much and they would just get too over-done and they didn't have any time for just being home and playing w/ their things.......Now we don't do anything a very few church activities and family get-togethers.....these keep us busy enough....Have a great weekend~Karen

  • I believe lives are busy no matter what you do.

  • It is hard to keep that balance with free time because sometimes as a society we believe we need to fill every free space of time in our lives.
