Oceanmomma asked what our menu looks like. This is it approximately. Our “extras” will be fruit we pick up in Eastern Washington. The cherrys will be ripe and we have full intentions of gorging on them. *snicker* My kids think Raineer Cherries are candy. We will probably also buy ice cream a couple times–its a necessity on vacation. We use a two burner coleman camp stove for cooking. Rob is in charge of breakfasts. I do the other two meals–although Rob will pitch in or just do it if I ask. Oh yes, and as a extra treat I bought a container of Minute Maid Powdered Lemonade something we NEVER have. The other major treat is cereal–my kids just don’t get it too much $$$$

your camping menu sounds like our normal menu – tee-hee!
i let the kids make the breakfast and lunch menus this summer – but i kept control of the dinner menu. we will be going on vacation at the end of the month – staying at a marriott residence inn with a full kitchen so i will be cooking – noodles, rice, basic stuff – nothing fancy or expensive – helps to keep the cost of the trip down. hotel has continental breakfast and the camp will have lunch – so i only need to cover dinner.
basically our menu is “normal” except a couple cereal’s
Sounds like a plan to me!! I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful vacation.
Enjoy that cereal.
The menu sounds good. What are brats? Sausage? Unfortuanately, my almost 11 year old son eats like a horse (just like his dad at his age). My menu is much more simple when the men aren’t around. Enjoy those cherries! I LOVE fresh cherries. We too splurge on cereal for camping trips. The kids really look forward to it every year.
An idea for when the kids get older that I got from a friend: I get a bag of treats (buy candy, choc. bars, gum, etc. when they are on sale) and the kids that clean up after the meal get to choose a treat. They negotiate as to who gets to clean up after which meals. This way I have less work to do and feel like I’m on vacation too.
Have fun!
I didn’t know cereal was expensive (well I know it is in the main stores like Safeway and Albertson’s). ROFL. But then again, considering that your family is a tad bit larger than mine that cereal budget would certainly explode, even on a Wal-Mart or WinCo kind of price budget. *goes pale at the thought*
Have a lot of fun! The menu looks simple and terrific for a road trip. *waves and waves*
