  • I'm having an I'm a failure week with Samuel.

    If I knew that he'd could survive in the public school I'd send him there today.  LOL

    Okay I wouldn't--because I know it would make much worse problems.

    I'm just so frustrated.

    He just doesn't care.   He doesn't want to learn.  And he doesn't want to try.    And then mommy gets the screaming meanies.  This is NOT what I want.

    I'm of two minds.

    One is keep pushing trying to find something that triggers him WANTING to learn.

    The other is.  Let him go.  Let him be boy.  And when he sees how the girls are doing so well, he'll start trying on his own.

    I'm absolutely torn.

  • i wish i had a suggestion for ya. {{{{hugs}}}

  • Try this... The Five Whys...

    Ask him why he thinks you want him to learn...

    When he answers, ask why again...

    Keep asking why about the answer...

    Five times.

    Sometimes that gives kids some perspective about why you're always onto them.

  • I have the same problem with Scotlyn on a regular basis. Sometimes she just isn't ready. She needs the time to mature, and she's a late bloomer. Sometimes she needs a serious push. You are his mother, and you are going to know a whole lot better than a teacher which time it is. You've survived (and more remarkably, so has he) this long, you can continue. You're doing a great job!

    RYC: I totally agree with you. That's why I don't plan on saying anything. But it's something that really gets to me. Soooo, when he's here this weekend I can call you and you can talk me down? LOL Worse case scenario, I'll get away for a while. Since it's just him, they can have a guy and kids weekend.

  • we have found in our limited experience in parenting our large group of kids that not everyone is ready to learn at the same rate - public schools are great for trying to normalize everyone to be on the same page at the same time - we struggle daily with different kids being on different pages - some just aren't ready to learn whatever the school is trying to teach them - just be patient and keep trying. try to structure the lessons around his interests - take a (short) timeout from the lessons but don't give up!
