  • Taking things into my own hands.....

Or *ack*  I'm becoming my mother.

The house we live in was mine first.  I bought it and with much help from my parents and my church we began to restore it.  When Rob entered the picture the grunt work had been done.  It had plumbing, sheetrock, wiring, a roof, a foundation etc.    We've since restored the lean-to.  Which was a monumental task in and of itself.      And his father did the wiring for that.  And my brother was the brains.

I have basically done no hands-on "hard" labor since I got married.  I do the painting.  I've chosen to let Rob do the rest.

    BUT...

that being said.  One year after it broke...

we still don't have a bathroom sink.

The girls haven't had a working light in their bedroom in two years..or more.  *sigh*

    I'm revolting.  *snicker*

There's a dozen other similar "5-minute" projects to do to maintain the status quo.

This weekend with some muscle from Rob and some "brains" from me.  I fixed the bedroom light.  And some other messes upstairs.   Next pay day I'm buying paint for the girls room to do there two walls.  They have attic bedrooms, the other two "walls" are actually ceiling and are still in good paint condition.   I will leave them white, and paint the other two a hottish pink.    And there room will look liveable again.

When the income tax return comes in the girls are getting our old queen sized bed, and we will be buying ourselves a king sized one...we're tired of sharing our bed with a baby...TOO small.  And the three girls are currently sharing a twin sized bed.

This *IS* by choice.   They want to sleep together.  We finally just stored the other mattresses as they were being trashed rather then slept on.     But man they need a bit bigger space to cuddle together.  LOL

Anyhow back to revolting.  My husband is a excellent man, but he's not-so-hot at the handyman projects.

I *want* water in my bathroom sink.  I'm tired of using the bath tub to wash my hands....

SO I'm gonna tackle that next.   Goes to research plumbing 101.  It can't be that difficult can it?  And I can't mess it up anymore then it is...trust me on this one.

    *giggles*

Reverse of the sexes.  He'll do the housework, I'll be the fix-it-person.  He doesn't care...so I guess its the way its gonna be.  Cause I just can't ignore it anymore.  hehehehe

    Rainy,

My two children share a twin sized bed. But they have seperate beds in the room. Countless nights I have walked in and found them sharing or cuddling on one bed. My daughter is 9 my son is 6. KIDS! :) Oh and about the bathroom sink I know the feeling. UGHHH! No water here either. So this means brushing teeth and washing of hands in the kitchen sink. Oh well whatever works.

    Have a great week!

  • Oh yah and we gave up our queen for a king too. Amarri the baby finds herself in our bed a few nights a week. But she does have her crib in our room as well. Your kids are beautiful!

  • My hubby was so excellent at re-do's when we first got this 'eternal project,' as I call it, but the fix-it needs way outlived his enthusiasm and pocketbook.  This was most frustrating for me because when the ex left, I became a Jill of all trades, installing my own light fixtures and doing light to medium carpentry.  God slowed me down by lack of physical ability, but I finally realized that was a good thing because I was putting him out of his job.  It was hard to wait and not do, but I learned a lot in the interim. God's good like that.  We are getting back to it for the first time in about a decade and I have been so energized by the progress.  Currently, I am telling him that I dare him to quit before I am finished, LOL!  FYI, I have been the painter person and the wallpaper gal.  Hoping you get to get these things done and enjoy the results! :heartbeat:

  • We were just talking last night that a King isnt big enough.....because of our dog!

As for the sink, underneath should be the shut off valves.  Turn them off, unhook the old sink/ plumbing.  Add new sink/plumbing, hook tubes back up to shut off valves, turn valves back on.   It's shouldnt be too hard.

  • You can do it! I've discovered, in my few forays into house repair, that most things aren't too difficult... just a little scary looking. Good luck with the repairs. It's your guys' house, you shouldn't have to live with broken things. *hugs* :sunny:

  • We have the same thing at our house....my husband is a construction contractor and you would think that things would get done and quickly, right? WRONG!

I have decided that I must learn how to fix and do some of things that need doing! Just need to find a good book or something to help me learn to do all this!

    Have a wonderfully blessed day!
