  • Ode to the five minute errand.

4.5 years into being a mom...I still miss it.

You know when you ran into a store bought the eggs and or milk and came home.

So today I did a "five" minute errand.  First of all I checked all of the kids.  "Get your shoes on,  their upstairs,  no over there.  Get them on."  Five minutes are up.  *snigger*

And then I eye Kaylin her pants and shirt are currently on backwards...you know zipper up the butt.   So we switch those.  Now the ketchup stains from lunch are on her shoulder blades.  *sigh*  We'll ignore those..maybe her hair will cover them.

    Get in car.

Zeria my wallets on the computer go get it.

Zeria comes back.   We buckle up...forget something else "important."  Zeria does another run and I buckle up 2 sets of car seats.

We drive to town.  Discuss ad nauseum our "great" errand.   Get to Safeway.  Wander around parking lot 2x before we find a parking spot that will fit the 15 passenger van.

Undo 3 sets of buckles.  Pick up the garbage that fell out of the van onto the floor.  Give the standard get back over here, no touching lectures.   Carry Rainee hold Jamari and Kaylins hands.  Tell Sam to get back here 4 times.

And we haven't even entered the store yet.

Find a cart...thanks the lady who DIDN"T put it away.  Load Rainee in.  She screams at me 'cause I don't put her in the "right" spot.  She prefers sitting in the big basket.  "Move her"

Take 3 deep breaths and go into store.

Grab the eggs and ice cream (hey it jumped into my cart)

And then head to let the kids pick out doughnuts.   Remind Zeria 2x to keep up.   And tell Sam to look out he's gonna bump...nevermind he did.

Ten minutes to allow each child to pick out their doughnut.  Only Kaylin doesn't "like" doughnuts" she wants a cookie.     Put the doughnuts in the cart.  Rainee cries unh unh dony.   "I know sweetie you can have it AFTER we pay for it."    This turns unh unh into full fledge screams.   I pick her up so as to not get everyone in the store looking at me.

So now I'm pulling the cart...and holding the baby.  We go grab a case of pop...and we're done.  Rainee is calm now, and goes back in the cart.

Eye the check-out line.  LUCKY us there's a bored checker.

We unload our treasures.  Talk casually to cashier...I used to deliver her newspaper in another life time.   I can't remember if I gave her my safeway card.  She snickers at this.

Head out to the van.  Zeria stops to look at the videos.  I have to give the come here lecture.   We get to the parking lot.  Loose Sam and Mari for a moment.

Get kids, stuff, and me in the car with the appropriate doughnuts.

And sit in the van contemplating...what ever happened to the five minute errand????????

Oh and why I'm so stinking tired....

  • ROTFL...and I'm laughing *with* you as I know the feeling...and I only have 3 kiddos!

And things jump into my cart all the time....don't know how that happens. LOL

  • You're a saint! You have the patience of one!

  • Oh man what a great giggle to start my morning, and I'm laughing with you not at you sweetie..lol.  I only had two so I can't even imagine what you go through in a given day.  But praise God you keep a great sense of humor about it... Love, Cathie Jo

  • Yea, laughing with you.  My mom babysat kids in our home (nine extras including me and my bro.)  I guess this is why she got on the phone and called around the neighbors until she found someone to borrow from... I kid you not, for NO reason did she go to the grocery more than once a week ~ I simply can't imagine!  (((hugs)))

  • In fact I have one of those 5-min. run to the stores to do today too for dog food...if Chris doesn't get home before I'm ready, wish me luck. LOL

  • That sounds soooo familiar....did you take my kids somewhere today? ROFL!!!  So, I'm curious, how long did this actually take?
